More Fabulous Fiber….

Still pondering my trip to the Fiber Philadelphia kick off at Moore College of Art and Design last Friday.  Elissa Auther could convince anyone that fiber art is art!

"String Felt Thread" by Elissa Auther.

The latest installation at The Galleries on Moore’s campus features artists that celebrate surface design and fiber arts.  “The Poetics of Form” uses thread to render “drawings” by Shizuko Kimura.  The artist forgoes traditional pencil and paper and “sketches” from live models with needle and thread directly onto cotton muslin or handmade paper.  Re-read that sentence please.  (Don’t want you to miss the super cool part.)

This Japanese born, contemporary artist brings centuries old handcraft traditions into the 21st century by rendering figures and objects that demonstrate the stitched mark’s ability to “draw”.

Done talking…just look!
